Collaborative Family Law- Be in control of your divorce
Natalia Lalas qualifies as Teesside’s first Collaborative Lawyer

Collaborative law is a relatively new approach to family law designed to help couples manage the process of their separation or divorce. It is a different way of resolving conflict and its aim is to help you and your partner work together with your collaborative lawyers to achieve a fair and amicable settlement that works for both of you and your families.

An amicable parting is emotionally less stressful for you and your partner and will help preserve a civilised relationship for the future and for the benefit of any children. A series of meetings take place in which you, your partner and your lawyers agree to work together to resolve any family and financial issues without court involvement. The collaborative process is different from both the traditional court route and mediation as you set the agenda and the timetable and remain in control of the process.

Your collaborative lawyer will work with you and your partner to reach an agreement that meets the priorities and needs identified by you. All discussions leading to agreement remain confidential. In order to take part in collaborative law, you will need a specially trained collaborative lawyer.

Askew Bunting is the first law firm in Teesside to be qualified to provide this service. Collaborative law can also be used to help separating unmarried couples and civil partners. If you are interested in using collaborative law please contact our specialist family department to discuss matters further.
